1) Who won the first-ever March Madness tournament in 1939?
The very first tournament was won by the Oregon Ducks in 1939. At this time, there were only eight total teams that took part. Oregon ended up defeating the Ohio State Buckeyes, 46-33.
After this, Oregon didn’t end up making a final four again until 2017.
2) Who won the tournament in 1985, when the tournament moved to 64 teams?
Villanova won the tournament in 1985. The eighth-seeded Wildcats defeated the Georgetown Hoyas, 66 to 64.
This was the first time that the tournament moved to 64 teams and it has stayed that way ever since.
3) How many titles did Christian Laettner win at Duke?
Christian Laettner won two titles at Duke. This first came in 1991 and then in 1992. Duke beat the Kansas Jayhawks, 72–65, in the 1991 final. They beat the Michigan Wolverines, 71–51, in the 1992 final.

The NC STate Wolfpack beat the Houston Cougars in the 1983 finals.
6) How far did Kevin Durant and the Texas Longhorns go in the 2007 NCAA Tournament?
Kevin Durant and the Texas Longhorns lost in the second round in 2007. They beat the New Mexico State Aggies in the first round and then lost to the USC Trojans. USC would go on to lose to the North Carolina Tarheels in the next round.

8) What school was the first 16-seed to upset a number 1-seed?
University of Maryland, Baltimore County (aka UMBC) became the first-ever 16-seed to defeat a number 1-seed. This came when the UMBC Retrievers defeated the Virginia Cavaliers in the first round in 2018.
UMBC would go on to lose in the second round to Kansas State but they will live on in College Basketball history forever.
9) How many NCAA titles did Lew Alcindor (aka Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) win at UCLA?
Lew Alcindor won Three NCAA titles when he was at UCLA (1967, 1968, and 1969). UCLA beat the Dayton Flyers, 79–64, in the finals in 1967. They beat the North Carolina Tar Heels, 78–55, in the finals in 1968. They beat the Purdue Boilermakers, 92–72, in the 1969 finals.
Alcindor’s coach was the legendary John Wooden.
10) How many NCAA titles did Mike Krzyzewski win at Duke?
Coach K won 5 NCAA titles when he was at Duke. This includes 1991, 1992, 2001, 2010, and 2015.
