• JJ was born on March 22nd, 1989 to John and Connie Watt. John worked as a firefighter for nearly 30 years before retiring in 2013. Connie worked as the Vice President and HR Manager of a building inspection company.
• JJ has two younger brothers, Derek and TJ Watt, who also currently play in the NFL. TJ is a linebacker who plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers and was drafted 30th overall in 2017. Derek is a fullback who plays for the Los Angeles Chargers and was drafted in the 6th round in 2016.
• According to an interview with his parents, JJ played hockey from the age of 4 until 13. He eventually had to quit the sport to focus on football full time. It is pretty safe to say that the decision has worked out well for him.

Contracts & Career Earnings

• In 2014, Watt signed a 6-year contract extension with the Houston Texans worth $100 million. This contract includes $51.8 million of guaranteed money, which was an NFL record at the time for a defensive player.
• In 2015, Watt was announced as the Vice President of Power Relations for Reliant. His salary and actual role are unclear but it is interesting to see an NFL player in a position like this while he is still playing.
• In 2015, Watt signed a shoe deal with Reebok but the terms of that deal were not made public.
